Nearly a week after St. Paul voters went to the polls, a hand tally of second-choice votes determined Saura Jost to be the winner Monday in the four-way race for the Ward 3 seat on the St. Paul City Council. The ward spans Highland Park, Mac-Groveland and part of West Seventh Street.Jost, a civil engineer who drew 6,390 votes on election night, saw her count rise to 6,617 votes as rival candidates — including write-in votes, Troy Barksdale and then Patty Hartmann — were eliminated from the tally, freeing up the second-choice picks on their ballots to be reallocated to Jost and fellow candidate Isaac Russell, the second-place vote-getter.There were 13,396 ballots cast in total. With more than 48% of the vote on election night, Jost’s victory was never really in doubt. Russell, Hartmann and ultimately Jost herself had expressed interest in seeing the final vote tally, a process that roped in some 15 paid Ramsey County Elections workers for a six-hour count that began ...Biohazard to perform in Albany

The City of Denver has agreed to pay $100,000 to a church camp in exchange for public access to that camp’s private road in the foothills, which leads to a proposed Denver park. The agreement ends an eminent domain dispute that rankled residents of Coal Creek Canyon, 40 miles northwest of downtown Denver in far northern Jefferson and Gilpin counties. In 2021, the Axton family donated its 448-acre ranch to Denver for use as the city’s 23rd mountain park and its first new mountain park since 1939. The area includes expansive meadows, ponds and a trail built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. What the city did not acquire then is access to the only road leading to that property.Beth Eden Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge owns Camp Eden and Camp Eden Road, which runs through the camp for a quarter mile, ending at the entrance to Axton Ranch. The Axtons have been able to use the road due to a handshake agreement they have with the church. When it came time for Denver to buy public access to th...No. 25 CU Buffs men’s basketball, Cody Williams ready for Milwaukee

Colorado’s Cody Williams is expected to return from a brief injury absence when the 25th-ranked Buffaloes host Milwaukee. (Cliff Grassmick/Staff Photographer)It was a banner Monday for fans of the Colorado men’s basketball team. For the first time since late in the 2020-21 season, the Buffaloes cracked the Associated Press top 25, squeaking into the first poll of the regular season at No. 25.More importantly in the big picture for CU, Cody Williams is back in the mix.Williams practiced on Monday, and afterward head coach Tad Boyle said the standout freshman will be back in the rotation when the Buffs put their early 2-0 mark to the test in a Tuesday night home date against Milwaukee. Williams missed Friday’s victory against Grambling State due to a minor injury, and his services might very much be needed against a Milwaukee team that won 22 games last year and returns four starters.“They play 11 or 12 guys, they have some good transfers and some guys they recruited and developed,” CU...Uber rolls out new safety features for drivers, including new feature in Los Angeles

Drivers on the ride-hailing platform Uber will now have greater protection from false accusations, unfair ratings and unruly riders thanks to a new slate of safety features unveiled by the company Monday.Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber's CEO, said the new safety features were made with the interest of the company's vast network of drivers and couriers in mind.“We are improving the driver experience to help keep them safer on the road and give them a louder voice in deactivation decisions," Khosrowshahi said. "From trip recording, more transparent deactivations, and expanded rider verification–we’re with them every mile of the way."Uber called it "an unfortunate reality" that riders might report false issues about a driver in hopes of receiving a refund. New systems are now being put in place to prevent that, the company said.Uber is also rolling out a new feature that allows drivers accused of being under the influence of drugs to voluntarily take a drug test and participate in a program to...TSA bracing for busiest-ever holiday travel season
Published Thu, 14 Nov 2024 21:11:55 GMT
The travel industry seems to have dusted off the COVID-19 cobwebs, as TSA agents announced that they screened a record number of travelers this year. Now, officials are warning travelers that this upcoming holiday season may be the busiest that TSA has ever seen. According to an official TSA release, the “holiday season” begins on Friday with the start of Thanksgiving travel and concludes on Nov. 28. During that 12-day period, 30 million passengers are expected to be screened at security checkpoints nationwide. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents help travelers place their bags through the 3-D scanner at the Miami International Airport on May 21, 2019 in Miami, Florida. TSA has begun using the new 3-D computed tomography (CT) scanner in a checkpoint lane to detect explosives and other prohibited items that may be inside carry-on bags. Batman needs Robin. But right now, the Warriors’ Batman, Stephen Curry, is surrounded by a team of Alfreds. The positives of Alfreds aside — don’t sleep on the value of the butler — this is not a winning formula for the Warriors for the remainder of the season.Golden State is on a three-game losing streak, and with all three losses coming to teams with elite big men, there has been plenty of consternation in the fan base over the Warriors’ size. But the Warriors’ biggest issue so far this season is players — and if we want to be serious, one in particular — not playing up to the size of their role. While the Strength In Number Warriors might be back — this team is deep — the lack of a clear No. 2 has left Curry to singlehandedly carry the burden of winning every game. The two-time MVP still plays at a superhuman level, but he can only do so much. I shudder to think of what happens to the Warriors if he’s not around.(Photo by Nic Antaya/Getty Images) Rel...Latest news
