If you ripped the names and logos off the front of the jerseys and just looked at blind resumes, the Nuggets take this bad boy in five games.“I get the chills with that, man,” Rudy Perez told me as he took a reflective sip off his can of Modelo an hour before Game 1 between Denver and the Los Angeles Lakers. “Because this could happen. The (Nuggets) could beat us.”Perez wore a nervous look and a gold Lakers replica jersey with Magic Johnson’s iconic ‘32’ on the back. Rudy’s lived in Denver the last three decades, but he was born in California. And he’s never been able to let one of his first loves, the Lakers, completely go, truth be told.“People have (said to me), ‘Yeah, we’re gonna win,’” Perez said. He lofted his beer. “Get 17 of (these) in them, then they’ll talk.”Get 17 in them during a two-hour window, they’ll be in the hospital. So much history. So much … well, hate. The Lakers faithful in Colorado? Hey, they get it. National brand. Generational dominance. Early on in Farhan Zaidi’s tenure, after his first season heading the Giants’ baseball operations, before he had hired a manager or a general manager, he had decisions to make regarding a franchise icon. Out of contention at the trade deadline in 2019, the Giants opted to hold on to Madison Bumgarner and, a few months later, didn’t explore a reunion seriously enough to prevent him from leaving as a free agent for Arizona. The decision to let Bumgarner walk has long looked like the wise move, with the now-33-year-old left-hander without a team and the Diamondbacks still on the hook for more than $34 million of the $90 million they guaranteed him four winters ago. But the Giants are just now beginning to reap the rewards of the arguably more controversial choice, to settle for the draft pick compensation in return for Bumgarner leaving in free agency rather than the potential prospect capital from a midseason swap. The arrival of Casey Schmitt last week represented a m...Feds say Aryan Brotherhood was behind six California murders, including two separate double homicides

FRESNO — For the second time in the past year, federal prosecutors here say they have evidence that a California double-homicide was ordered by Aryan Brotherhood members and committed by men who saw the brutal twin killings as an entryway into the secretive all-white prison gang.Last year, prosecutors charged two incarcerated Aryan Brotherhood members with ordering the Oct. 4 2020 killings of Allan Roshanski, 34, of Vista, and Ruslan Magomedgadzhiev, 40, of Tarzana, both allegedly shot to death by a Southern California man named Justin Gray. Now, those same two alleged prison gang members are charged with ordering a double homicide that prosecutors say was carried out on March 8, 2022, in Los Angeles County.A partially redacted indictment, unsealed Tuesday, links a total of six homicides across California to the gang. Stacked on top of a concurrent federal prosecution of the Aryan Brotherhood alleging five murders and four murder plots, this move is only the latest time in rec...Do you know her? SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes appears to be soon bound for prison after an appeals court Tuesday rejected her bid to remain free while she tries to overturn her conviction in a blood-testing hoax that brought her fleeting fame and fortune. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling comes nearly three weeks after Holmes deployed a last-minute legal maneuver to delay the start of her 11-year prison sentence. She had been previously ordered to surrender to authorities on April 27 by U.S. District Judge Edward Davila, who sentenced her in November.Davila will now set a new date for Holmes, 39, to leave her current home in the San Diego area and report to prison. The punishment will separate Holmes from her current partner, William “Billy” Evans, their 1-year-old son, William, and 3-month-old daughter, Invicta.
