In Alaska, nearly 13% of people 12 and older had a drug use disorder in 2021.Coloradans' attitudes toward drug use run the gamut from lenient to risky, depending on the drug in question. My wife thought it was an earthquake.”Neighbors said the couple who lived at the home had been sleeping next door Thursday night, and that the building was going to be prepped for summer rentals.“It was just luck that they weren’t in that house,” said Kristin Perry, who woke up to the explosion. “Boom, the house...

Immanuel Quickley to use Sixth Man award snub as motivation: ‘always look for stuff to continue to fuel you’

Immanuel Quickley took losing to Malcolm Brogdon in stride but vowed to forever recall the snub.“No doubt [it’s motivating],”Quickley said. “When I didn’t make All-Rookie, that was something that fueled me. So you always look for stuff to continue to fuel you and continue to help you get better. So that’ll be one thing that I’ll always remember for the rest of my career.”Quickley finished second to Celtics point guard in the Sixth Man of the Year voting that was announced Thursday. It was more lopsided than expected, with Brogdon nearly doubling Quickley’s first-place votes (60-34).Part of the PR push for Brogdon was Quickley’s games played as a starter (21), which theoretically diminishes a candidacy for a reserve award. Brogdon made all of his appearances off the bench.Quickley noted that previous winners— including Lamar Odom (2011), Aaron McKie (2001), Jamal Crawford (2014), Kevin McHale (1985) and Manu Ginoboli (...

Movie review: ‘Chevalier’ fails to convey scope of composer’s fascinating life

It’s a striking image — a young Black man, dressed in 18th-century French fashion, in a waistcoat and silk breeches, his hair braided in cornrows, holding a violin, the bow slung over his shoulder, the title “Chevalier” emblazoned below his feet. This movie poster almost looks like a Kehinde Wiley portrait, a radical reassertion of tradition, a disruption of the narrative we’ve been sold. Bologne, the son of a French plantation owner and a young Senegalese enslaved woman, was born on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and educated in France. He was a talented musician, composer and fencer, for...
