PITTSBURGH — The Mets were careful not to say that their Saturday win over the Pittsburgh Pirates was enough to fully turn the tide in their direction. They emphasized the work that still needs to be done and the habits that need to be unlearned. One win can change everything, but in this case, it didn’t, as the Mets fell 2-1 to the Pirates on Sunday at PNC Park. The Mets (31-35) dropped the series, 2-1, and suffered their eighth loss in nine tries. This loss was like many others: A starting pitcher failed to even make it to the sixth inning and the Mets’ bats went quiet. Right-hander Carlos Carrasco (2-3) limited the damage but increased his pitch count with three walks. He was removed with two outs in the fifth, with the Mets going to left-hander Josh Walker to face left-handed hitter Jack Suwinski, who had homered off Carrasco to lead off the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.The bottom of the order produced the go-ahead run in the same frame. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — It was supposed to be a homecoming of sorts for U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, after her agency spent many months hosting public meetings and talking with Native American leaders about curbing the pace of oil and gas development in the San Juan Basin and protecting culturally significant sites. But her return to Chaco Culture National Historical Park on Sunday was derailed when a group of Navajo landowners blocked the road, upset with the Biden administration’s recent decision to enshrine for the next 20 years what previously had been an informal 10-mile (16-kilometer) buffer around the World Heritage site.Social media posts showed protesters yelling “Go Home!” as some held signs that read no trespassing on allottee land. The landowners and Navajo leaders have said Haaland and the Biden administration ignored efforts to reach a compromise that would have established a smaller buffer to protect cultural sites while keeping intact the viability of tr...10 dead, another dozen injured in Australian bus crash

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — The four Indigenous children who survived 40 days in the Amazon jungle after their plane crashed have shared limited but harrowing details of their ordeal with their family, including that their mother survived the crash for days before she died. The kids, aged 13, 9 and 4 years and 11 months, are expected to remain for at least two weeks in a hospital receiving treatment after their rescue Friday, but some are already speaking and wanting to do more more than lying on a bed, according to family members.Manuel Ranoque, father of the two youngest children, told reporters outside the hospital Sunday that the oldest of the four surviving children — 13-year-old Lesly Jacobombaire Mucutuy — told him their mother was alive for about four days after the plane crashed on May 1 in the Colombian jungle. Ranoque said before she died, the mother likely would have told them: “go away,” apparently asking them to leave the wreckage site to survive. He provided no more detail...Latest news
