OAKLAND — During a delay ahead of a state panel’s vote to unleash higher monthly PG&E bills, the utility leviathan quietly lobbied regulators about plans that may enrich shareholders as customers endure higher rates. The state Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to make a final decision on Nov. 16 regarding PG&E’s general rate case by reviewing multiple scenarios for changes in customer monthly bills. The grim reality: The two main alternative proposals that the PUC is considering — as well as potential tweaks to these primary scenarios — all lead to big increases in monthly bills for PG&E customers. One option that the PUC is considering would increase bills for the average residential customer who receives combined electric and gas services from PG&E by $31.13 a month. Electric bills would jump by $22.37 a month while natural gas bills would increase by $8.76 a month. An alternate proposal that is being floated would increase average ...11 of America’s 25 most expensive ZIP codes are in the Bay Area. Fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants outside Gaza’s largest hospital has prompted thousands of people to flee from the sprawling medical facility, but hundreds of patients and others displaced by the war remained inside, health officials said Monday.U.S. President Joe Biden said Shifa hospital “must be protected” and called for “less intrusive action” by Israeli forces. Shifa hospital has been without electricity and water for three days and “is not functioning as a hospital anymore,” said World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Sunday. He said there has been gunfire and bombings outside the compound.Patients there include dozens of babies at risk of dying because of a lack of electricity, health officials at the facility said.More than two-thirds of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million have fled their homes since the war began.Gaza City, the largest urban area in the territory, is the focus of Israel’s campaign to crush Hamas ...Procuraduría de Colombia anuncia investigación de presuntos seguimientos ilegales ordenados por el comandante del Ejército a profesor de su esposa

With rosters and staff in place, new women’s pro hockey league ready to open training camps

The title of general manager doesn’t completely capture the many tasks on Danielle Marmer’s to-do list in the two months since taking over the Professional Women’s Hockey League franchise in Boston.“It’s funny you should mention that,” Marmer said with a laugh. “I just came from the carpentry shop where I was looking at what our locker stalls are going to be like, and making decisions on where we want the hooks to be, how many shelves — things I’m not an expert in.”She’s not complaining. At 29, Marmer and her fellow GMs are on the ground floor of a newly established six-team league that will feature many of the world’s top players when it begins play in January.“Like it’s pretty cool to say that I have my fingerprints on not only building the team itself, but the building of the locker room, the offices, the players’ lounge,” Marmer said.Though the teams have yet to be officially named and the schedule yet to be released, piece by piece the PWHL is coming together. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — It’s not totally fair to judge quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville’s offense off one game against arguably the best defense in the league. But it’s reasonable to look at Lawrence and the Jaguars after 10 weeks and have questions, probably even concerns.Nothing feels right.Lawrence has more turnovers (10) than touchdown passes (9) and is being sacked at a record rate. Calvin Ridley has been a non-factor way too often. Fellow receiver Zay Jones already has missed twice as many games this season than he did in his previous six years combined. And Jacksonville’s offensive line, a unit that’s been shuffled almost weekly, has opened few holes between the tackles and has Lawrence under more pressure than he’s faced at any level in his lifetime. The result: the Jaguars (6-3) rank 19th in total offense and 15th in scoring a few months after coach Doug Pederson said he believed his team was capable of averaging 30 points a game.Jacksonville is roughly e...Latest news
