NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets pitcher Drew Smith was suspended for 10 games by Major League Baseball on Wednesday, the fifth pitcher and second on his team penalized for using banned sticky stuff. The penalty was announced by MLB senior vice president for on-field operations Michael Hill, one day after Smith entered in the seventh inning of a Subway Series game against the Yankees at Citi Field and was ejected without throwing a pitch.Smith has the right to appeal the discipline to John McHale Jr., a special assistant to baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred. “They said both of my hands were too sticky,” Smith said following the Mets’ 7-6 loss. “Really surprised, because I haven’t done anything different all year. Sweat and rosin. I don’t know what else to say. Nothing changed. It’s just, I think the process is so arbitrary. It can change from one crew to the other and I think that’s the main issue.”Smith was stopped for a routine check as he reached the infield. (CNN) — A Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict Daniel Penny, the Marine veteran who held Jordan Neely in a fatal chokehold on the New York City subway, according to a source with knowledge of the case. Penny, 24, was indicted on second-degree manslaughter charges. The Manhattan District Attorney is expected to formally announce the grand jury’s indictment, which is under seal, on Thursday.Penny surrendered to police last month to face a second-degree manslaughter charge. He has since been out on a $100,000 bond. Penny held Neely, a homeless man and street artist, in a chokehold on the subway train May 1 after Neely began shouting at passengers that he was hungry and thirsty and didn’t care whether he died. Penny forced 30-year-old Neely to the train floor and restrained him in a chokehold until he stopped breathing. A medical examiner ruled Neely’s death a homicide. CNN has reached out to Penny’s attorneys and the attorneys representing Ne...Trump sees no slide in support after indictment

Trump for President 2024 has raised more than $6.6 million in just a few short days,” his campaign declared Wednesday evening. That includes over $4.5 million from digital fundraising, with an additional $2.1 million from Trump’s event at his Bedminster, N.J., golf club Tuesday night. The former president was perhaps temporarily shocked into silence after his historic arrest and processing for 37 federal felony charges Tuesday. About 16 hours later Trump would echo his campaign’s fundraising assertions, thanking — one assumes sarcastically — the people he claims are behind the indictment...Latest news
