PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz is out indefinitely after fracturing his left ankle in a collision at home plate during Sunday’s 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox.Cruz was attempting to score from third on a chopper by Ke’Bryan Hayes when Cruz’s leg bent awkwardly beneath him while attempting a late slide. Cruz’s leg appeared to collide with the legs of catcher Seby Zavala, who easily tagged out Cruz. The 6-foot-7 Cruz writhed in pain and the benches and bullpens briefly cleared after Pittsburgh designated hitter Carlos Santana appeared to take exception to Zavala’s behavior. There were no ejections and order was quickly restored.Zavala didn’t like how late Cruz decided to slide and mentioned it to Santana, leading to a brief escalation.“I was just talking to Santana about it,” Zavala said. “He didn’t like what I said, he said something I didn’t like. That’s what happened. I think in a couple of days everybody will forget about it.”Cruz...Diaz, Profar homer, Rockies beat Nationals 7-6

Kutter Crawford gave the Red Sox the quality start they needed to complete a sweep of the Tigers.Making his second start of the season on Sunday in Detroit, the 27-year-old righty pitched five innings of one-run ball. He allowed five hits, struck out six, and didn’t issue a single walk. After facing six batters in a 22-pitch first inning prolonged by some shaky defense, Crawford settled in. He didn’t face more than four batters in any other frame, and sat them down 1-2-3 in both the second and fourth. The Florida native kept the Tigers on their toes with five types of pitches. He primarily relied on his cutter and four-seam fastball, but also mixed in the curveball, changeup, and slider, with velocity ranging from 77.4-95.2 mph.Even though he only needed 65 pitches (44 for strikes) to get through his outing, Crawford’s location was spotty. He threw more pitches out of the strike zone than in (36-29), and only got seven called strikes. Batters made contact 28 times, a...Cambridge firefighters battle fire at church on Easter

When the final buzzer of the NBA regular season sounded Sunday at the United Center, it marked a clear step back for the Chicago Bulls, who finished with a 40-42 record after a 103-81 win over the Detroit Pistons.Coach Billy Donovan warned in training camp that this season would be more challenging for the Bulls after establishing themselves as a more cohesive threat in 2021-22, when they earned their first playoff berth in five seasons. But that challenge proved even stronger than the Bulls expected. They went from finishing 10 games above .500 last season to a losing record and the last spot in the play-in tournament that determines the final two playoff seeds.“You’d like to be in a situation right now where you’re in the playoffs, but we’ve got to work and find a way to get into that point,” Donovan said. “This group has stayed together. They’ve tried to work through things and tried to get better every single day. The effort, the attentio...Latest news
