ST. LOUIS - Police are investigating a shooting that has left two men dead in St. Louis City. A little after 7:00 a.m., police received a call to check out a suspicious vehicle on Semple Avenue. Denver’s crowded mayoral election earlier this month and the pre-planned runoff in June have prompted a new push to implement ranked-choice voting in future city elections.Just one day after the April 4 election, a nonpartisan group called Ranked Choice Voting for Colorado announced the formation of the Denver Deserves Democracy Committee, which will advocate for the city to make the switch to what’s also called instant-runoff voting.This method lets voters rank candidates on their ballots by order of preference, first, second and third, up to the number of allowable options. If one candidate gets the majority of voters’ first-choice rankings, that person wins the election. But if no candidate secures an outright majority, candidates are then eliminated through subsequent rounds of counting. Sunny blue skies with temperatures in the 70s await metro Denver residents this week, and nighttime temperatures are expected to stay above freezing, according to the National Weather Service.The Monday high in Denver is expected to be 73 degrees, weather service forecasters said. Police shot and injured a man Sunday near the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, prompting street closures in the area due to law enforcement activity. Officers with the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to the area of 3rd Street and Elm Avenue at around 4:45 p.m. on reports of a shooting. Fortunately, no one was hit.Not long after the initial incident, officers located the shooting suspect a few blocks away, near Ocean and Elm avenues, at which point police shot the man. A 27-year-old man from San Dimas has been arrested after allegedly vandalizing a church in Newport Beach, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage. The incident occurred Saturday morning at the United Methodist Christ Church by the Sea. Video footage from the church, built in the 1930’s, shows windows boarded up after the 27-year-old allegedly shattered stained glass windows that were given as gift to the church many years ago. Officials at Christ Church by the Sea estimate that the vandal caused $80,000-$100,000 worth of damage.
