CROWN POINT, Ind. — More than 40 dogs were rescued on Thursday from what Lake County Sheriff's deputies in Northwest Indiana suspect was a puppy mill operation. A 41-year-old man is being questioned about the case. According to deputies, Lake County detectives on Wednesday received an anonymous tip about a man who had been purchasing large amounts of dog food and medical supplies used for animals. OTTAWA, Ill. — A man has been charged with arson in connection with a restaurant fire last month in Ottawa, according to police.John Smith, 44, was charged Thursday with arson, a Class 2 Felony, after The New Brite Spot Family Restaurant was set on fire on April 15, according to a news release from the Ottawa Police Department. AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced May 10 after pleading guilty to four charges related to a November 2020 kidnapping and sexual assault.Travis County court documents said 25-year-old Steve Martin Guerrero pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced on two aggravated sexual assault charges, an aggravated kidnapping charge involving bodily injury/sexual abuse, and an aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.For the first three charges, he was sentenced to serve 30 years in a state prison per charge. He was also sentenced to serve 20 years in prison for the final charge. A 17-year-old has been arrested in Wednesday's stabbing of a Metro bus driver in Woodland Hills, police announced at a news conference Thursday afternoon. His name is not being released given his status as a juvenile, however, police continue to share a surveillance photo of him from inside the bus.The stabbing occurred around 5:15 p.m. at Erwin Street and Topanga Canyon Boulevard after a verbal argument over "fare evasion," investigators said. A man was arrested Thursday after a woman was found stabbed to death in downtown Los Angeles in April.The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Robert Hughes by the Los Angeles Police Department.On April 22, officers responded to calls of a suspicious death investigation at an apartment complex on the 1200 block of South Hope Street.When police arrived, they found the victim, 29-year-old Amy Albeno-Mendoza, dead at the scene.
